Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about Mat Patterns, training privacy, teams, and account features.

Mat Patterns is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training journal designed to help you track your sessions, rolls, techniques, and overall training patterns over time. It started as a digital replacement for a handwritten training journal and has grown to include team and coaching features as well.

Yes. Individual training logging is free to use. Additional school and coach features may be offered as paid options.

You can log things such as:

  • Training sessions
  • Gi, No-Gi, open mat, drilling, and other class types
  • Session duration and intensity
  • Rolls and training partners
  • Submissions and submission attempts
  • Takedowns, sweeps, escapes, passes, positions, and other techniques
  • Techniques taught, drilled, reviewed, or practiced positionally
